The Roar’s 2026 Spring Writing Contest – 3-5 Winner

A color can hold more than one feeling

It might show sadness or a heart slowly healing

You can be mean and violent like the wild blue waves

yet you can be calm and peaceful and wise like the brave

You can be sad—loving, passionate, and courageous

but you still have the choice to be angry, rough, and dangerous

You can be white—innocent and kind

That doesn’t mean you can’t leave your worries behind

Green can mean hope, luck, and the beginning of a new life

but it can still show envy, greed, and strife

You could see the world through rose colored glasses

and be friendly, playful, and caring

yet have an outburst of emotional flaring

Oh, what a contrast life can be

You can be strong yet gentle,

calm yet fierce, brave yet afraid, loving yet cold…

You can be red, blue, white, green, or gold

If love was a color, what would it be?

You’re free to choose and free to be.
