California has been facing historic storms as a result of the “bomb cyclone” coming in from the Pacific Ocean. The rain was originally thought to be California’s “drought buster” but has proven to be more deadly than anticipated. Unprecedented winds and rainfall have lead to power outages and school closures, as well as numerous flood and tornado alerts. Over 33 million Californians have faced flash floods that damaged roads and properties. Amid these disasters, many have posted videos on social media of people canoeing through flooded streets or watching the record-breaking waves crash through California coastlines. Potholes and landslides have crowded northern California highways, causing one person to be reported dead and one missing. These recent tragedies should be a harsh reminder to stay safe and stay indoors when possible.
