India is currently facing a deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in addition to many other problems. In India, the confirmed COVID cases are about 400,000 daily, which is higher than any other country during the pandemic. Experts suspect that the real number of cases are much more and are rising rapidly each day. For instance, The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation says “the true number of new daily infections is around 8 million—the equivalent of the entire population of New York City being infected every day.” There aren’t enough vaccines, oxygen containers, and medical supplies for India’s population to access. To support India and help better their situation, the Quarry Lane Spanish club has worked to raise awareness and encourage people to create supportive messages for the people in India.
To educate people all over the world, the Spanish club is sending informative letters to various International Baccalaureate schools in different countries to spread the message of India’s current state, places people can donate, and how they can help by sending messages of support. QLS students are working to collect contact information for schools all over the world to raise awareness and have also involved the Spanish classes at QLS to help them with their efforts. In addition to this letter, the club has created educational flyers and is encouraging the public to add supportive messages to India in the comments of their posts to reach those in need. Although we are living in an extremely challenging time, we can do our best to help India together. Great work cougars!
